Going Against the Grain in Craps

When you play or watch craps most of the time you will see everyone betting the pass line or making a “Come” bet. There just are not that many people who want to go against the grain and make don’t pass bets or “Don’t Come” bets.

You might think that the odds are better if you play the Pass Line bet instead of the Don’t Pass but that is not the case. People just don’t like to bet against something happening. They would prefer to bet on a hot streak instead of a cold streak.

When you take odds behind a Pass Line bet you are going to get more money back if you win. When you bet the Don’t Pass you have to risk more money because you are going against the odds. For example, let’s say you bet the Don’t Pass and the point is either 4 or 10. You are laying odds of 2-1 behind your original bet. If the number is not made you win your original bet and you win your odds bet. You might have risked $20 to win $10 on your odds bet. If the point was 5 or 9 then the odds would be 3-2 so you would lay $30 to win $20 or the equivalent.

The next time you play craps and have the feeling that the shooter is not going to make anything be sure and play the Don’t Pass bet and take odds behind hit.
